II. Beach destination in detail
Vung Tau
Vung Tau overview: Most visitors to Vung Tau City, a resort town
by the sea some 100km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, are ready to throw
themselves into the beach activities that make such a pleasant change
from all that's rough about city life. It takes three hours to get
there, or a little over one hour by hydrofoil.
At the beach, visitors can indulge
themselves with a sumptuous treat of seafood then take a nap under the
shade of phi lao (casuarina) trees, lulled to sleep by the sea
breeze or the pure air from the neighboring mountains.
From Nghinh Phong Point, which juts out into the East Sea like a giant
crocodile head, they can watch the waves washing the sandy shore amid
majestic rocks and cliffs. This is a good place for vacationers who love
fishing and some adventure.
Yet, one of the most interesting places for tourists from home and
abroad to visit in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province is the wild landscape of
Suoi Da (Rock Stream) and Suoi Tien (Fairy's Spring) with its many
streams winding around the rocks, between mountain cliffs, and through
the forest below. The rocks are covered with lichens and mosses that
give them a fantastic appearance.
Along the streams, tourists can find several giant flat rocks where they
can lie down for a while and listen to the murmur of the stream water.
Legend says these rocks used to be the beds of fairies descending from
Heaven in moonlighted nights. These rocks still bear the lovely tiny
footprints of these fairies.
About 30km from the township of Ba Ria, tourists can visit the Bau Sen
marsh forest with its multiform ecosystem of rare and precious fauna and
flora.
How to get there? It takes you
around 2.5 hours to get there by bus or 1 hour and a quater by express
boat. Transportation price list

Long Hai
Long Hai overview:
Long Hai is located 30km north-east of Vung Tau. Take this short beach
break to relax there. It takes about 2 hours to make the 120km journey
from Ho Chi Minh City. There are several places to visit quite close to
Long Hai; the caves at Minh Dam, underground tunnels at Dia Dao, and the
Chua Phap Hoa Pagoda.
What makes this part of
the Province attractive:
-
its
proximity of HCMC (only about 1.45 h drive)
-
a
less-commercialized seaside destination than other locations for
travelers looking for a peaceful seaside retreat.
-
its
long expanses of clean sand and beaches which are the main
attraction along the stretch of road that runs north of Long Hai and
along a natural and unspoilt coast.
-
its
climate
There are no good or bad seasons for visiting Vietnam.
When one region is wet, cold or steamy hot, there is always
somewhere else that is sunny and pleasantly warm. It is the case in
the area of Anoasis Beach Resort located 2 km northeast of Long Hai,
which benefits from a "micro - climate" even during the
raining seasons, generally from May to October. While the annual
average fall is 1,200mm in the Province during the raining season,
the last five years have seen only three days in a row without
seeing the sun in the area of Anoasis Beach Resort, and it was not
raining all the time.
The annual average temperature is in the range of 26oC to
31oC. Perhaps, it is one of the main reasons why the
last Emperor of Vietnam chose this site as one of his preferred
holiday residence.
What to see in Long Hai:
There are several sites in the area well worth exploring.
At Minh Dam, 5km from Long Hai, there are caves with historical
connections to the Vietnam war. Nearby, there is a mountain top temple
with great panoramic views of the coastline.
Another 20km away at Dia Dao, there are underground tunnels (similar,
but on a smaller scale, to those at Cu Chi) dating from the war.
Chua Phap, 4km away, is a peaceful pagoda set in a forest with lots of
wild monkeys. There are some good trails here for short hikes.
At about 45km north of Long Hai, there are hot springs at Binh Chau. The
baths, in different sizes, range from 37oC to 40oC
and the minerals in the water are said to be beneficial to the bones,
muscles and skin. They are also said to improve blood circulation.
There are also a couple of hot springs. The hottest spring reaches 82oC
which is hot enough to boil an egg in 10 to 15 minutes.
Besides the possibilities of renting bicycles or cars, the resort can
organize some daily excursions such as Vung Tau City Tour, Vung Tau
Ocean Park, fishing by canoe or boat, Long Son Islet (Mr. Tran religion
and ecologic system of mangrove forest) and Binh Chau Hot Spa that the
World Tourism Organization has added to its list of sustainable
ecotourism resorts and has also added to its World Tourism
Organisation's website.
How to get there? It's
about 125km from Ho Chi Minh city and possible to get there by bus.

Binh Chau
Binh Chau
overview:
Binh Chau Thermal Springs are located 70km
east of Vung Tau City and away 150 km from Ho Chi Minh City.
One wonderful thing is, at unknown
time, in the mangrove forest, a cluster of 70 visible gushed spots of
water at different temperature from 40°C to 82°C formed a huge natural
hot water pot and hot mud, streaming out endlessly till today. According
to the world scientists, hot spa water, hot mud and fresh air of forest
and sea are the best elements for man's body-resistance and health
recovery. At the 82°C egg boiling natural wells, only with 10 minutes
for medium boil or 15 minutes for well-done boil, you will enjoy
tasteful, nutritive eggs poached inside egg - yolk out.
Binh Chau Thermal Springs belong to a
protected area that also features numerous forests, coasts, and lakes.
Hotels and restaurants have been built to accommodate visitors who come
here for health as well as for recreational purposes.
How to get there? Binh Chau it's
about 150 Km from Ho Chi Minh city and it takes you 3.5 hours to get there. Transportation price list

Can
Gio
Can Gio
overview:
Can Gio
has been recognized as a biosphere reserve after evaluation of various
aspects, including the people, ecology, environment and biosphere
sustainability. Those who visited this place decade ago can hardly
recognize it today, due to the countless towering trees and plants that
stretch out of sight, and the harmonious biosphere of the coastal
mangrove forest. So far nearly 40,000 ha of forest and land have been
restored. According to the Can Gio Forest Managing Board, at present
more than 600 households with 1,500 people reside in this area. They
live on reforestation, forest protection and aquatic production. In the
early 1970's, the concept of "Biosphere reserve" was announced with the
aim of protecting the species in danger of extinction. The biosphere
reserves must preserve the samples of the ecological systems in the
world, and work as a laboratory where research and observation of these
ecological systems are undertaken. The reserve seeks measures to help
the local people benefit from nature.
Since its establishment in
2000, Vam Sat Salt-Marsh Forest Ecological Tourist Zone has created
tourist sites based on available natural environment. Bat Swamp is one
of tourist points which can win the concern of visitors. The natural
scenery is beautiful like a great work of art. Going into the swamp,
tourists will see groups of flying foxes hanging themselves behind the
foliages of high mangroves. Bats are very sensitive to the environment,
so they live only in places that are certainly safe. The most
interesting activity in Bat Swamp is crab angling. Giant pincers of
crabs with succulent meat will make tourists’ lunch more delicious.
Motorboat will bring tourists to the next
tourist point. There is a crocodile farm consisting of 40 crocodiles in
Vam Sat Tourist Zone. Tourists come here to observe the living
environment and to learn about the habits and manners of how crocodiles
hunt for food. There is a unforgettable game named “Cruising while
fishing crocodile.” Fishing boat is made of composite plastic with
special design and surrounded by high fence of B40 metal grid. Fishers
only need to drop their baits and wait for the crocodile to take their
baits. The motorboat takes visitors to central zone for lunch and
relaxation. While waiting for their lunch, tourists can check out a
unique swimming pool in which they do not have to worry about being
drown because the salt concentration in the pool is 10 times higher than
that of the ocean. Therefore, a person density is lower than the density
of the pool water. Hence, tourists are always afloat on top. They can
swim any way that they like, even you can read newspaper while swimming.
In the
near future the war zone in the shrub forest, which was home to 800
commando soldiers in wartime, would be restored. It will become a
3,000m² preservation sites with 14 houses-on-stilts, roofed with date
palm trunks and water-coconut leaves. When this project is completed,
Can Gio will have another traditional tourist site, attracting not only
young people, but also those who want to know more about the struggle of
the fighters in the shrub forest in the past.
Taking a boat ride on the big Dong Nai and Long Tau Rivers or on the
smaller Vam Sac, Dong Thanh and Soai Rap Rivers, which run through Can
Gio, visitors will not think that they are visiting a district on the
outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. They seem to be in the watery areas of Ca
Mau and Kien Giang, the southernmost area in Vietnam with vast mangrove
and cajeput forests. The roots of the mangrove trees on the sides of the
river twist with one another then spread out and root deep into the
earth. It is these roots that make Can Gio a protective forest
safeguarding millions of city dwellers, and an ideal ecological tourist
site as well.
Thanks to those accomplishment, in the
middle of 2003, the World Tourist Organization (WTO) recognized Vam Sat
Salt-Marsh Forest Ecological Tourist Zone is one of the two sustainable
ecological tourist zones of the World in Viet Nam. The Bird Sanctuary
and Bat Swamp are approved by the People Committee of Ho Chi Minh City
for a conservative zone in Can Gio protective forests in order to
reserve and develop the salt-marsh forest ecology zone, conservative
biosphere area and to create a place for sightseeing, research and
education for both local and foreigners.
How to get there?
By bus, it take you an hour and a half to get there.

Phan Thiet
Phan Thiet - Mui Ne
overview:
Phan Thiet, a 4-hour bus journey from Ho Chi Minh City, is a small
and sleepy seaside town that has a certain quaint and colorful
fishing village charm. With a population of just 200,000 people, the
town is embraced by a series of undulating hills, lush greenery and a
blissfully secluded dune covered coastline. Despite the onset of
tourism, the fishing industry is still the main source of income for the
locals and many sustain their living from the sea as fishermen or
producers of "nuoc mam"- the pungent fish sauce that is so popular with
the Vietnamese.
The growing number of sophisticated beach resorts seems to have
had little impact on Phan Thiet's gentle pace of life - the beaches are
particularly quiet and devoid of intrusive vendors. This is not
somewhere you come for action but more for the laid back ambiance; the
motto here is kick back and take your time.Situated 198 km east of Ho
Chi Minh City, Phan Thiet is a refuge for many folks who come for the
weekend to exchange the tension of the noisy traffic and trade of the
city with the comforts of a hotel room right on the beach and a hearty
appetite of succulent seafood. No doubt as Vietnam develops, so will
Phan Thiet.
What to see in Phan Thiet:
The attraction of Phan Thiet is the beaches.
Although there are not too many to choose from, what are available are
quite good, clean and tranquil. About 10 minutes from town is the
longest and popular Mui Ne beach. It can be considered as the
main tourist area as most of the resorts are located here. Mui Ne is a
long, straight and narrow road with resorts by the beach and a handful
of restaurants on the other side. The water is not crystal clear but the
beach is broad and you can walk for miles on the fine sandy beach
fringed by rows of palm trees. As most of the resorts are set apart from
each other, peace and privacy are pretty much guaranteed.
A similarly attractive beach and a
more exclusive choice can be found right in front of the Novotel
Coralia Resort Ocean Dunes. Since it is the only hotel here, do not be
surprised to have the beach to yourself. The other attraction of this
resort is the 18-hole golf course designed by Nick Faldo which is
so far the only one in town. The scenic course features some challenging
holes with stunning ocean views and sand dunes. Green fees range from
USD 45-70 but hotel guests enjoy lower rates.
For a nicer more idyllic beach, you need to venture further a field. A
good 1½ hours drive away is Ca Na Beach which promises pristine
turquoise water and white sandy beach.
The Red Sand Dunes in Mui Ne draws a steady stream of curious
crowds. The climb up to the top is fairly steep but manageable - proper
footwear helps. Once at the peak, the view is magnificent, the smooth
velvety mounds cascade up and down like giant folds of silk fabric,
leaving one to feel almost ashamed to leave footprints over the flawless
formation. With the shift of winds, the dunes take on a different
character at each visit. You can either slowly work your way down from
the dunes or take the quick and fun way - slide down on a plastic sheet.
By day, Phan Thiet town is a vibrant commercial area for the fishing
industry. The best time to capture the delights of this little
fishing harbour is in the early morning when the entire place has a
lively buzz - there are fishes of all shapes and sizes and the local
housewives come to bargain for the day's catch. The place is a little
messy, noisy and the air smells fishy but still it is about the most
action you will get in town. There are some good pictures to be taken as
well, the colorful traditional boats that dock in the river right in the
center of town or the man with his cart piled high with ice rushing for
a timely delivery.
While in town, be sure to hop over to the Thuy Tu Fishermen
Association where fishermen come to pay their respect to the Gods of
the Sea. This association looks like a Chinese temple and is quite an
intriguing place to visit. Over a century ago, whales were frequently
spotted in the surrounding coast of Phan Thiet and fishermen believed
they were Gods of the Sea who guided and protected them. When a whale
died, their remains were brought back and buried in the grounds of the
association. After 3 years the bones were placed in a pagoda for
worship. Inside the association, different rooms store tons of whale
bones, some over 100 years old. On display is the preserved bone
structure of an enormous fin whale that is over 120 years old, 22 meter
long and weighs over 65 tons. This ritual is still practiced today and
the last whale burial was in 2002.
Also in town is the Ho Chi Minh Museum, which has a rather
neglected feel. The museum has mainly newspaper clippings and old
photographs of the country during the revolution under the revered and
affectionately known, Uncle Ho. If interested, bring along a guide for
translation as most of the literature is in Vietnamese. Across from the
museum is a small school and garden that is kept in memory of Ho
Chi Minh who lived and taught there while he was in Phan Thiet. The
locals are proud of this visit and even the trees in the garden that
have lived longer than their "hero" earn a certain respect.
The serene and beautiful White Lake
is about 65 km north east of Phan Thiet. The lake is aptly named because
of the white sand dunes that border around it. However the landscape has
changed over the years and the white sand is now mostly covered by
greenery. But the lake has a stunning display of Lotus flowers that
bloom along the water's edge, like pink icing on a cake.
On the island of Khe Ga 45 km south east of Phan Thiet is the
historical lighthouse built at the end of the 19th century by a
French engineer. The lighthouse, prompted by the then increasing French
army presence, was needed to ensure the safety of commercial and naval
vessels. The solid 65 meter granite structure has stood the test of time
and remains as the only prominent symbol of European influence in the
region.
For an exciting and rugged way to explore the terrain of Phan Thiet,
take a jeep. Fasten your seat belt and get ready for a bumpy ride from a
trip to the Red Sand Dunes to a refreshing ride along the coastline.
Event: Most events in Phan Thiet are religious in nature. The
most celebrated event is the Lunar Tet Festival, the equivalent
of the Western New Year. The dates are never fixed and change according
to the lunar calendar. This 5-day event falls between the months of
January or February. In Phan Thiet the river Ca Ty in the city comes
alive with colorful boat races, traditional operas and plenty of song
and dance.
The Mid-Autumn Festival held on the 15th day of the eighth lunar
month or between August and September is a favourite event among kids.
The full moon is celebrated with a parade of colourful lanterns and
sweet moon cakes.
Typical to Phan Thiet and celebrated in a grand scale is the Mbang
Kate festival, a religious event celebrated by the Cham people
during 8th and 9th months of the lunar year. The day starts with worship
and pilgrimage to the shrines and temple and ends with a thanksgiving of
games and entertainment.
A non-religious event is the Phan Thiet Golf Open, which is held
at the Novotel Coralia Resort Ocean Dunes. Throughout the year, many
other tournaments are held there.
How to get there? There are two
ways to get Phan Thiet - Mui Ne. The ususal way is traveling to there by
bus. It's take you about 4 hours to get there. And the other is by
train, it is expected to set out at Saigon Railway Station at 7AM and
arrive in Phan Thiet at 11AM and return from Phan Thiet at 2PM to Saigon
at 6PM on the same day (4 hours). The Phan Thiet Railway Station has
cars to transport tourist to Mui Ne, a well-known tourist site of the
province.

Nha Trang
Nha Trang
overview:
Nestled below the bottom lip of the Cai River, some 260km north of
Phan Thiet, NHA TRANG has earned its place on Vietnam's tourist
mainline partly on merit and partly owing to its location. By the time
the Nguyen lords wrested this patch of the country from Champa in the
mid-seventeenth century, the intriguing Po Nagar Cham towers had
already stood, stacked impressively on a hillside above the Cai, for
over seven hundred years. They remain Nha Trang's most famous image, yet
it's the coastline that brings tourists flocking: the town boasts the
finest municipal beach in Vietnam, scuba-diving courses are available
here, and there are plenty of day-trips to outlying islands too. It's
worth bearing in mind, however, that the Nha Trang region has a rainy
season lasting from November through to early January.
Most new arrivals in the city make a
beeline for the municipal beach, a grand six-kilometre scythe of
soft yellow sand that's only five minutes' stroll east of Cho Dam
market. The Pasteur Institute at the top of Tran Phu, the main drag
running parallel to the beach, houses the Alexandre Yersin Museum
(Mon–Sat 8–11am & 2–4.30pm; $1.80), which profiles the life of the
Swiss-French scientist who settled in Nha Trang in 1893 and became a
local hero, thanks not to his greatest achievement – the discovery of a
plague bacillus – but rather because of his educational work in
sanitation and agriculture, and his ability to predict typhoons and thus
save the lives of fishermen. Yersin's desk is here, with his own French
translations of Horace still slotted under its glass top; so, too, are
the barometers and telescope he used to forecast the weather, and his
phenomenal library. The huge White Buddha seated on a hillside
above Long Son Pagoda in the northwest of town is Nha Trang's major
landmark. It was crafted in 1963 to symbolize the Buddhist struggle
against the repressive Diem regime, and around its lotus-shaped pedestal
are carved images of the monks and nuns that set fire to themselves in
protest.
How to get there?
- Road: The National Highway 1A and the railway from north to south
run through Khanh Hoa Province, linking it with the other provinces in

Da Nang
Da Nang
overview:
Danang
is located on the central coast of Vietnam, midway between Hanoi and Ho
Chi Minh City. It has an excellent airport with regular flights from
both major cities. There are also some international flights to Danang.
In Danang city, visit the Cham museum to learn about
one of Vietnam's many ethnic minority groups. China Beach
is a few kilometres to the south of the city. Marble Mountain is also
within close range. The ancient city of An nasiriyah is about one hour
by car. The hamlet of My Lai is a few hours to the
south of Danang in the province of Quang Ngai. Rental cars (modern and
air-conditioned) are readily available and affordable in Danang and
include a driver who knows the area and local traffic customs.
There are many attractions in Da Nang
that would draw one's attention towards planning a visit. One of the
attractions features the tranquil countryside South of Da Nang with a
chain of Marble Mountains: five large hills representing the five
elements (metal, water, wood, fire, earth). The Marble Mountains have a
legend that comes with it. Legend has it that there is gold and great
treasures inside the caves that were once guarded by monks, but they
were always hidden so no one actually knows how much gold is in the
caves. The cave is said to have secret passages and booby traps, so no
one dares to enter the caves. People have claimed of disappearances of
explorers who entered the cave. Marble Mountain is just a big mystery
but the mountain itself is a unique landform that is rugged, oddly
shaped, and scary looking.
Another place to visit would be the Cham
museum. If one is not into history, the building itself is worth the
trip to make. The Cham museum features artifacts and sculptures dating
back from the time if the Champa people. The sculptures are very unique
and mythic-like. One sculpture I have seen in the museum is one of an
elephant head with a human body. Many images seen in the Cham museum
seems like it came from Greek mythology. Of these many attractions, my
favorite would be the famous new Han River Bridge. The Han River bridge
lights up the night with its beautiful patterns and mix of colors. The
lights are as bright as the early morning sun, being on the bridge will
awaken one’s senses. Being on the bridge is like living in a fantasy
world, everything looks picturesque. The bridge is the pride of Da Nang
people. The Han River Bridge - the symbol for new vitality and the
developing desire of the city- was built with the contribution of all
the city's people. It seems that all poetic features of the Han River
can be only expressed deeply in the space of Han River Bridge with full
of wind and ventilation. The Han River Bridge is said to be a cultural
spot of the Da Nang people today that would be left behind for the
future generations
Danang is one of the most popular beach
in Vietnam could be one reason of Furama Beach Resort. The resort is
built directly on the beach with two swimming pools, International
Restaurants and health and spa club, massage, private beach and the most
fantastics thing about the resort is the staff there are so friendly.
Expats from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh have been to Furama at least once if
they have been in Vietnam for 6 months. To the north of Danang on
Highway One is the famous Pass of Ocean Clouds, a
spectacular sight. Hue, the ancient imperial city is a few hours to the
north by car, bus or train.
How to get there?
Location:
Danang is 108km from Hue, 130km from Quang Ngai, 763km from Hanoi, and
947km from Ho Chi Minh City.
Air: The Danang International Airport is 2.5km south-west of the
city center. There are domestic flights to some cities. There are direct
flight from Bangkok, Hong Kong, Siem Riep, Taipei and Singapore to
Danang City by Vietnam Airlines, PB Air, Siem Riep Air way, Far
Transportasion and Sil Airway.
Train:Thong Nhat Express train, which connects Hanoi and Ho Chi
Minh City, stop in Danang.
Water: There are marine routes to international and domestic
ports. Tien Sa and Han River ports are located in a very wonderful
position.Transportation price list

Hoi
An
Hoi An
overview:
Hoi An, a World Cultural Heritage site, which is famous worldwide
for its complex of long - standing architectural constructions. again
draws increasing attraction from tourists by its long beach of blue
fresh water, sun shining white sand and nice breeze. It is an ideal
place for tourists who enjoy relaxing at the seaside, visiting the World
Heritages such as Hoi An Ancient town, My Son holy land... and exploring
other places of interest in the surrounding areas
Hoi An is an ancient port town on
the Thu Bon River 30 km south of Da Nang. Known as Faifo to early
Western traders, it was one of the Southeast Asia’s major international
ports during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Hoi An was an important
port of call for Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, and other trading
vessels.
Today parts of Hoi An look exactly as they did a century and a half ago.
Hoi An still preserves hundreds of houses built of precious wood in a
very original style of architecture, either one or two storeys, in their
complete wholeness. The rafters and beams of these houses are carved
with very subtle patterns. These houses date from the first part of the
19th century or earlier give visitors the feeling that they have been
transported back a couple centuries ago.
Hoi An is one of the rare places in Vietnam where you’ll find genuine
Vietnamese architecture. Besides this, Hoi An is harmonious integration
of other architecture styles with the local conditions. There is
Japanese quarter linked with a Chinese neighborhood by Japanese Covered
Bridge, which was constructed in 1593 by the Japanese Community in
Hoian. This bridge reflecting the Japanese preference for
understatement, still in its original style attracts many tourists. The
Chinese community in Hoian is fond of many temples and Assembly Halls,
which are worth visiting again and again.
Perfect combination of
culture trip and beach relaxation. The fascinating ancient
port of Hoi An is a maze of narrow streets, witness to the legacy of the
Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese traders who used the port in years gone
by. On these days, it is a chance to visit Cham Museum, home to
Vietnam's largest collection of Cham treasures.

How to get there? Travel by
bus from Ho Chi Minh city, it takes you 9 hours. Another way is taking a
flight from HCMC to Da Nang (an hour and a quater),
Hoi An is 30km from Da Nang (45 minutes) and can be reached by car, bus
or minibus
